Job Description**


**Job Summary:**


Coordinates unit staffing and provides leadership while ensuring implementation of clinical objectives and quality patient care in assigned area.


**Responsibilities:**


+ Assigns, directs, educates and monitors nursing and support staff during assigned shift. Contributes to or performs performance evaluations of staff.

+ Assesses daily patient care needs and develops and distributes patient care assignments, ensuring that population appropriate patient care is given.

+ Evaluates the effectiveness of patient care and identifies any issues that affect desired patient outcomes.

+ Responds to complaints about patient care and manages through established channels.

+ Assesses and coordinates discharge planning needs with patient, family, and members of the healthcare team. Evaluates learning needs of patient and family and provides age-specific and culturally appropriate education.

+ Assesses the physical and psychological status of patients, provides interventions/treatments and evaluates effectiveness of care to achieve desired patient outcomes.

+ Monitors patient flow in and out of the unit, delegates patient care assignments according to skill level of caregiver and acuity of patient. Assures patient load is equally distributed to ensure quality patient care and appropriate use of staff. Ensures staff has necessary equipment and supplies to provide safe, quality patient care. All other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**


**Licenses/Certifications/Registration:**


+ **Required Credential(s):**


+ BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.

+ One or more of the following:


+ Licensed Registered Nurse credentialed from the Tennessee Board of Nursing or current home state license for multi-state license recognition "Compact State" obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.


+ **Preferred Credential(s):**


+ Advanced Life Support credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA). May be required by department; if applicable, must obtain within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date.


**Education:**


+ Diploma

+ Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing


**Work Experience:**


+ Clinical nursing experience within the past five (5) years preferred.
